5 days on, 2 days off? I mean... c'mon!

I am on a quest to learn the history behind the typical hard-working American's work week - and what we can do to change it! We work Monday thru Friday and then take the weekend off. Does ANYONE EVER feel ready to go back to work on Monday? And how happy are we when it's FINALLY Friday?! And for those of us trying to make a full time job out of doing something we love... this is all EXTRA work!

I have read that religious beliefs have guided our current American work week. How is it that religion - that is so lightly regarded to so many in present times - is something that shapes the whole working class culture?

Wikipedia (which I realize can sometimes only be taken with a grain of salt) reminds us that in Christianity, Sunday is the day of rest. And to be Jewish, means honoring Shabbat, which lasts from Friday at sunset 'til Saturday evening. If this is true - that we have the "weekend" on Saturday and Sunday to honor our faith... Why aren't we all in church? Shouldn't it be that if we don't attend church regularly, we should be able to pick our own days off?

I pick Thursday through Sunday for my weekend! WHO'S IN?!

This week in the land of bag-making

This week, I can't seem to keep up with all my new ideas. Bicycle bags. iPhone cases. iPad carriers. Zipper pouches to sell at the salon. 4th of July bags. New handles. Pockets. Pleather. New packaging. Box labels. Blogger. Facebook. Advertising. The list goes on, as I continue to lose sleep at night, sewing!

My main focus - if I can go as far as to say I have ONE - is getting my stuff made and listed.

I've been hard at work on the new line of Big Bear Lake pouches.

Back soon for more on what's new!

Life Management

Purse-making numbs me like wine. I love the creative outlet, the time alone, the ability to push my mind to it's creative fullest. Kelly Handbags is the product of an over-worked mind of an ambitious and independent spirit.

I have a full time job; one where I can work from home while staying home with my now three year old daughter. Yes, 50 hours a week, I have a "real" job... but my purse biz is my passion - and I hope to encourage other entrepreneurs like me - through periodic blogging - to "keep on keepin' on" as they say.

It's easy to find successful eBay or Etsy sellers, who've in a round-about way given you some insight to their success, through online articles or elsewhere. I would like this blog to serve as a place to go, where we can interact and exchange ideas - ones that work - on becoming successful in the marketplace.

I'd love to feature any and all handmade products here and would love to share your links, too!

Will be posting more often. Cheers!
